Adventures in Eucalyptus

We decided that we'd like to have a native tree in our backyard so I set off to the library to research and decide which species would be best. We chose eucalyptus torquata, commonly known as coral gum. Here's a pic of a full grown tree. We found several of these trees in our area and chose one in a park to collect some seed pods. Turns out, you can't just crack them open and grab the seeds. You have to collect pods that are still closed and then dry them in the sun until they open and release the seeds. Only took one day in the sun for these to open.

We found another tree in the park that we really liked so collected some seeds from it too. I've planted some seeds from both so we will see if anything grows! I'll keep you posted.
